  • 17 July 2010 - Book Review: Curious George Takes a Job

Age 00-04. 4 Stars. Another of the Reys’ gleeful books of monkey business… appropriate for preschool through elementary school ages.

  • 12 July 2010 - Book Review: Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?

Age 00-04. 4 Stars. This is a pleasant follow-up to Brown Bear Brown Bear, What Do You See?, with the rhythmic refrain changed by one word. This volume focuses on animals found in the zoo.

  • 18 August 2009 - Book Review: Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile

Age 04-08. 4 Stars. Lyle, the mild-mannered crocodile, lives with the Primm family on East 88th Street…. This sweet, funny story provides a sympathetic view of a tight-knit community, and the prejudice that sometimes goes along with it. Children will wait with anticipation for the resolution of Lyle’s troubles, and will learn through Mr. Grumps’ bad example that not everyone is what they appear to be.

  • 10 July 2009 - Book Review: Good Night, Gorilla

Age 00-04. 4 Stars. Good Night Gorilla is a charming, nearly-wordless book about a gorilla living in a zoo… Children will enjoy the absurdity of animals trooping into a human house, and delight in being “in the know” about the gorilla’s secret plan. As in the Curious George books, children may vicariously enjoy the gorilla’s mischievous actions, then enjoy his warm feeling of security as he happily falls asleep between the husband and wife who care for him.

Having great books available at home in your own library is like being the owner of the best grocery store in town, where the crispest produce, the most recent catch of fish, and the freshest bread, warm from the oven, is available to you 24/7. — Jan Bloom
